Facebook Test Sidesteps News Feed Gaming

Facebook appears to be caring about the fact that individual users are tired of having their news feeds gamed by algorithms that decide what is most important. Usually, the relevance portrayed by news feed is pretty low to what individuals actually value.

Facebook is testing a “See more of what you love” feature that lets users pick pages and friends most important to them, placing those posts at the top of the news feed ahead of the algorithmic posts. As a test implies, not all users will get the chance try this new feature and it may or may not get implemented in the end.  You’ll know you have it by the “See more of what you love” prompt on your mobile device.

If you’re like me and grow impatient with the bloated, uninteresting news feed rather quickly this would possibly help alleviate some frustration. This reminds me of a Wired article from Mat Honan last summer when he liked everything on Facebook for two days. If you have a few spare minutes to read, this article may be more interesting than your news feed.
